This rare original Tiffany Lamp features an early Wild Rose shade, likely an early design by Clara Driscoll which is notable for its use of deeply pigmented Tiffany Glass.
The entirety of this unusual leaded glass shade is encircled by a dense motif of bright yellow wild roses in various stages of development, each articulated in carefully selected tiny hand-cut pieces of mottled Tiffany Glass marked by varying levels of opacity. These vivid flowers with their bright green streaky glass leaves are accented by the clear deep blue of the background glass..
This rare Tiffany lamp shade is paired with an original bronze lamp base with an inset horizontal row of Tiffany Glass “Turtle Back” Tiles in an iridescent yellow glass which coordinates with the yellow flowers in the shade.
Both the shade and the base are signed.
The only other known example of a "Wild Rose" shade is in the permanently installed as part of the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Lamps at the New-York Historical Society (accession no. N84.58.1)
